Sec. Jesus Dureza meets with legislators from Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR)

Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus G. Dureza met with legislators and local executives from the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) earlier today, 28 November 2016, to discuss about the region’s bid for autonomy. Secretary Dureza expressed his support for the political roadmap that Cordillera envisions.

“The decision has to be shared with everyone. ‘Pag sinabi niyo na, go with autonomy, I’d really campaign for it. Come up with a consensus and I will champion it”,he said. #TayoAngKapayapaan

Multidisciplinary Research Conference and Workshop on Mindanao Studies

OPAPP Assistant Secretary Dickson P. Hermoso was guest of honor at the Multidisciplinary Research Conference and Workshop on Mindanao Studies held at the Notre Dame University in Cotabato City, today, 28 November 2016. The theme of the activity was “Rethinking Social-Relations, Identification, and the Peace Promise in Mindanao.

In his keynote message, Asec. Hermoso stressed that the people is the most important component in the peace process, which he refers to as the ‘bigger peace table’. He also assured that the government is doing its promise of a more inclusive peace process.

The said event is a research collaboration program conference and workshop of the Notre Dame University and the Ateneo de Manila University.

4th EU Ambassadors’ Forum

The 4th EU Ambassadors’ Forum (EAF) was held earlier today, 25 November 2016, to discuss the Philippines’ Peace and Development Roadmap. This is the first EAF organized under the Duterte administration.

The forum was attended by diplomats from around 20 EU member countries. Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende was the forum’s guest of honor. In his message, he expressed confidence in the political will of the new administration.

“Under the leadership of President Duterte and Secretary Dureza, we have seen a new momentum. It’s a historic opportunity for the Philippines to end conflict and to move forward,” he said.

In response, Sec. Dureza profusely thanked the EU, especially the Norwegian government, for their unwavering support to the peace process.

“I would like to thank the Norwegian government and all the EU who have been helpful in our work for peace and development in our land.The strong support of our partners have kept us behaving in the peace table,” he said.

EAF is a venue for the Philippine government to give a briefing on timely topics of mutual interest and to exchange views with the Ambassadors of European countries.

Conversation with Felipe Montoya

EARLIER TODAY: Felipe Montoya, Director of the Regional Peace and Development Program of Colombia, and Peter Hauschnik, Principal Advisor of GIZ-COSERAM, joined OPAPP in a discussion to tackle experiences and parallelisms between the Philippines and Colombian peace processes. Montoya discussed about the Red Nacional de Programmas Regionales de Desarrollo y Paz, ‘Redprodepaz’ (Colombian Network of Regional Development and Peace Programs). The Redprodepaz is a network composed both of civil and private organizations that initiate the creation of peace and development programs in Colombia. He also shared about the VallenPaz, one of the networks under Redprodepaz. It implements development projects in the most excluded part of Colombia. #TayoAngKapayapaan

Framework for Peace Accords: Political & Constitutional Reforms

POLITICAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL REFORMS. One of the substantive agenda tackled during the recent talks between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and National Democratic Front (NDF) in Oslo, Norway on 6-10 October 2016, is the Political and Constitutional Reforms (PCR). The PCR is expected to fully complete its work by January 2017. The Reciprocal Working Committee on PCR is chaired by Dean Seffrey Candelaria of Ateneo College of Law, with government negotiator Rene Sarmiento as supervising panel member. AGREED OUTCOMES FOR END OF HOSTILITIES AND DISPOSITION OF FORCES. On October 6-10, 2016, the Philippine Government and the National Democratic Front (NDF) met for the second round of formal talks to agree on common frameworks for the final peace pact. One of the substantive agenda that was tackled is the End of Hostilities and Disposition of Forces (EoH-DoF). The Reciprocal Working Groups (RWGs) on EoH-DoF is chaired by Defense Assistant Secretary Teodora Torralba III, with government negotiators Antonio Arellano and Angela Librado-Trinidad both supervising the RWG. The NDF side is led by Wilma Tiamzon as chair and Benito Tiamzon as vice chair. #TayoAngKapayapaan

OPAPP gears up for National Peacebuilding Conversations

Organizers and facilitators from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos met earlier today, October 13, to finalise the preparations for the upcoming National Peacebuilding Conversations: Peace and Development Summit. The said event will gather around 300 peacebuilders from across the country, representing national government agencies, selected line agencies, local government units in conflict-affected areas, civil society organisations, and official development assistance partners from October 14-15 at the Royal Mandaya Hotel in Davao City.
