It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to a man who dedicated his entire professional career to serve and protect the people and the country — Major General Romeo G. Gan.

MGen. Gan was a man of honor, commitment and dignity who made his distinct mark in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and country’s peace process. He held the chairmanship of the Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (AHJAG) from 2013 to 2014, a peace mechanism which made it possible for the peace process between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to move forward despite peace and security challenges that time.

While acting as AHJAG chair, he was also carrying out his functions as assistant division commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ 6th Infantry Division. He oversaw the coordination of law enforcement operations of the GPH and the MILF, and prevented situations of conflict between both parties during the peacekeeping operations.

MGen. Gan had played an invaluable role in the country’s peace process, and for this, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), as well as its international and local peace partners, pay tribute to this great man of peace.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of MGen. Gan. As we mourn his passing, may we all find comfort in this passage from the Holy Bible:

2 Corinthians 1:3 says: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

MGen. Gan, you shall forever live in the hearts of all the people you have touched through your outstanding service. You have inspired a whole new generation of soldiers who will follow in your footsteps and carry on the tradition of excellence you have left behind.

Maraming salamat, MGen. Gan at mapayapang paglalakbay!
