MAKATI CITY – For his contribution to strengthen relations between the Philippines and the European Union (EU) through peace and development, the EU has given Secretary Jesus G. Dureza an award of distinction in time for the celebration of Europe Day.

EU Ambassador Franz Jessen emphasized that the issue of peace, stability and security, especially in the Southern Philippines, are close to the hearts of the delegates of the prestige union.

“Today in the Philippines, the Mindanao Peace Process is the key issue and Secretary Dureza is working very hard to create lasting peace in that area,” Jessen said.

In his acceptance speech, Dureza underscores the value of the EU support to the Philippine peace process.

“Let me thank the EU for the strong support in our work for peace in the Philippines and to the peace efforts of our President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” Dureza expressed.

Since 1980s, the EU has been the committed partner of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), through the Mindanao Trust Fund, in pursuit of the southern region’s peace and development.
