On behalf of the men and women of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sadanga, Mt. Province Mayor Gabino Ganggangan who joined our Creator on Saturday, January 29.

Mayor Ganggangan played a key role in the peace process between the national government and the Cordillera Bodong Administration-Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CBA-CPLA), which led to a Sipat on September 13, 1986.

His invaluable insights also contributed to the forging of the Memorandum of Agreement in 2011, which led to the disposition of arms and forces of the CBA-CPLA and the implementation of various socio-economic interventions for the group’s members.

Mayor Ganggangan’s hands-on, grassroots approach and passion for peace work  was reflected in his work as a member of the Joint Evaluation and Monitoring Committee of the GPH and CBA-CPLA, which has been pushing for long-lasting peace and sustainable development in the Cordillera region.

Time and again, Mayor Ganggangan demonstrated his heart for public service, having served as local chief executive of Sadanga, Mt. Province for several terms. But he will be best remembered for strongly advocating for the Cordillera Region’s genuine autonomy.

The OPAPRU joins the Cordillera people in mourning the loss of one country’s foremost peace advocates.

Your memory will be etched in our hearts and minds, Mayor Gabi.

Isang mapayapang paglalakbay sa inyo, at maraming salamat po sa inyong napakalaking kontribusyon upang isulong ang tunay at pangmatagalang kapayapaan sa Cordillera.
