We offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of veteran journalist Mr. Carmelo “Melo” M. Acuña, who joined our creator on Friday, 27 August 2021.

Mr. Acuña was a passionate and kind-hearted man who dedicated more than 40 years of his professional career to journalism, and is recognized as one of the country’s major pillars of mass communication.

As a veteran broadcast and print journalist, he did not only cover and write extensively about the comprehensive Philippine peace process for decades, but was also a staunch peace advocate himself.

And when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Mr. Acuña used the power of technology to interview those involved in the country’s COVID-19 response efforts, and help explain and provide greater context to their reports to the general public.

Mr. Acuña possessed all the qualities of a seasoned journalist: professional, calm and respectful. His questions were always well-framed and thoroughly researched, which helped provide clarity and substance to the discussions.

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, and the National Task Force Against COVID-19 has lost an invaluable partner, ally and friend, who was not only an outstanding journalist but a peacebuilder by heart.

You will always be remembered, Mr. Acuña. May you find peace with our Creator.

Isang mapayapang paglalakbay at maraming salamat po sa inyo, Sir Melo!
