MARAWI CITY – “In accordance with the guidance of the President, that we save as much lives as possible, we would like to announce to you that as of today, there are new saved civilians, we have a total of 38 and still counting as of today,” Presidential Peace Adviser Sec. Jesus G. Dureza announced the good news at a recent press conference.

“As the military addresses the terrorism, with the help of civilian sector through the humanitarian corridor, we have saved 38 lives as of today,” Dureza emphasized the team work between the military, and the volunteers who bravely rescued the trapped civilians.

Learn from the Marawi lesson

“Learn from the Marawi lesson, and see to it that we come together to support the government,” Dureza also highlights an important lesson we can draw from the situation here in the city.

Dureza is referring to the organizations that provided humanitarian aid, medical interventions for the evacuees.

Speaking before the members of the press, Dureza emphasized that government alone cannot solve the situation in Marawi, “It’s simple, if the people does not move at all, does not provide support to the government, this is what is going to happen.” he said.

Dureza is also referring to the initiative of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to partner with the government in solving the situation in Marawi. On the 12th day of the clash between Maute and the state forces, a safe and secure corridor – the Peace Corridor – was established. It is being implemented by both government and MILF peace panels. ###
